Exploring your options

Not everyone is clear on what coaching is, or how it compares to other support services. The following example illustrates the differences so you can find the support that’s right for you. I offer both coaching and consulting, and we can explore what would be most useful for your needs. Drop me a line.

The Expedition Metaphor: Imagine you’re on an expedition and heading into unfamiliar terrain.

Coaches

walk alongside you, believe you have the resources to navigate the terrain, help you visualise the final destination and develop the confidence/drive to reach it.

Consultants

give you a plan and a map. You can call on them to explore new routes, advise you on where to turn, and highlight what to look out for.

Mentors

are like travelling with someone who has already made a similar journey. They share their experiences, shortcuts and lessons learned along the way.

Therapist

help you open the backpack you’ve been carrying, to understand why it’s heavy, decide what to let go of, and tend to the wounds that make walking harder.

Counsellors

support you if you’re anxious about the terrain ahead or struggling to keep going. They help you manage immediate distress and move safely on.
